How do I build taste for designers in my team

Short answer

You cannot teach hunger.

Long answer

Taste is not a curriculum. It grows in conditions, not classrooms. The real question is whether your team is surrounded by work that demands they notice things, compare things, and feel the difference between careful and careless.

Create rituals of looking. Share things that have no immediate utility. Ask not "what do you think?" but "what do you feel?" Let taste be a conversation, not a verdict. The designers who develop it fastest are usually the ones who are solving problems they genuinely care about, or working alongside people who do.

And remember: taste without craft is just opinion. Nurture both together, and the gap closes quietly over time.
