How do you shoot a better documentary
Short answer
Remove your shoes, then look.
Long answer
When you document, you have to forget what you think and what you believe. Only then can you even listen, because otherwise you're not even listening.
We put ourselves in other people's shoes, but we always forget to remove our own. That lesson has stayed. At a place like the Kumbh, you can only learn. You can never enforce anything there. You can't be this director directing some photography there. You can't be this designer being like, do this this way. All that you can do is go and absorb.
It breaks down all the ego barriers which a person has. As a graphic designer, I am a facilitator. I'm not an author. I'm not a creator. And I think that is the biggest design lesson, that in a place like that, everything is designed, and as designers, we can only learn.
