How to tell a story?

Short answer

It is not what, but how.

Long answer

In theater, they say there are only that many stories, only that many plots. But it is not about that. It is about how you say your story.

When you know a person's work over a period of time, when you are exposed to a body of work, you have more insight. You warm the scene first, asking familiar things. But then you go deeper. You ask about form, about style, about who has inspired them, what background they came from, what training they had, and where they see themselves going. It does not stop at form and style.

The idea is to keep pushing. Not just what is known, but what has not yet been asked. The story is already there. The craft is in how you choose to enter it.
