If I wish to get into design, where should I start?
Short answer
Begin before you're ready.
Long answer
The first thing to untangle is the idea that you need permission. Design doesn't ask for credentials before it lets you in. What it asks is that you have something to communicate, and that you care enough to find the clearest way to say it. Start there. A blob, a sketch, a layout that feels wrong but gets made anyway. That's the beginning. School can sharpen your thinking over years, but the early craft instincts come fastest from doing real work in the world. The deeper goal of design education, when it works well, is not to make you immediately useful. It is to make you someone who thinks well for decades. Pick up something and make it.
