Is design an interdisciplinary subject?
Short answer
The river needs all its banks.
Long answer
Design has never been comfortable staying in one room. The moment you try to fence it, it slips through the gap between pottery and poetry, between a Japanese ceramic and a UX flow. Broad exposure doesn't just make you more cultured. It changes how you think. It gives you more ways to see a problem before you reach for a solution.
And yet there is a trap here. Breadth without depth becomes decoration. The real gift of interdisciplinary curiosity is that it dissolves formula. Design is not a recipe. Every problem arrives with its own weather. The person who has wandered widely is better equipped to meet it honestly.
