The anxiety wasn’t about the technology. It was about what the technology revealed: if AI can do your job with a text prompt, what exactly is your job?
Short answer
The iceberg doesn't melt.
Long answer
The visible part of a designer's work — the polished screens, the UI details, the deliverables — was always the smallest part. AI simply made that visible. What it cannot touch is what sits beneath: taste, judgment, strategic instinct, the ability to know what question to ask before anyone else has asked it.
A useful exercise is sorting your week into three piles: what AI can fully do, what it can assist with, and what belongs only to you. That last pile is where your actual identity as a maker lives.
The anxiety dissolves when you stop defining your job by its outputs. Define it by the thinking no prompt can replicate.
