There are too many online/offline courses available for design. How should we decide on authenticity?

Short answer

The school is everywhere.

Long answer

The question of authenticity in design education is really a question about what you're trying to become. A course can teach you to draw, to execute, to follow process. But it cannot teach you to push yourself. That part is always yours.

What I've heard again and again is that it takes five to seven years to make a designer, and no single program covers that full distance. The real curriculum is split between the classroom and the world outside it. Some things can only be learned by doing, by failing in front of a real problem with real stakes.

So don't ask if a course is authentic. Ask if it makes you uncomfortable enough to grow.
