What did Randy Hunt say in his podcast about Design?
Short answer
The way you do one thing.
Long answer
Craft, in my mind, is made up of three aspects. One is skill, the technical ability to make a thing. Second is practice or ritual, meaning you apply those skills very frequently. The third is judgment, or what some people call taste: to recognize when the application of those skills is good or not, and have a perspective on how to make it better.
These three are interrelated. You only develop the skills by doing the practice. You develop the ability to recognize what makes the thing better by having developed those skills. And you are only able to actually make it better by practicing the skills.
At the risk of sounding too ambitious, it is almost like a way of life. The way you do one thing is the way you do everything. No one really gives you permission to care that much. You just have to do it.
